Looking for a fun and creative way to repurpose that old dresser sitting in your garage? Look no further! If anyone knows me they know I love to see old furniture become new again! We switched out a dresser for a new option but the bones of this outdated dresser were really easy to work to create something new. Not only will this project breathe new life into your furniture, but it will also add a touch of sophistication to your home decor. Let's dive in!

A weekend project that didn't take a lot of time nor did it break the bank! Sanding, hole filling, painting, sanding again and one last coat this baby was ready for the new hardware, trim detail and the wood countertop. I had some left over tambour (the fluted wood trim product) I added it to the toe kick to make it look more custom, so simple but such a nice detail. We kept the current cigar humidor over a foot from the wall to make space for the new one to arrive. In fact, the reason for this new bar is to create better storage for the cigar and whisky collection. These inexpensive pine boards, medium stained are a great compromise to expensive Millwright ones. Chunky black bracket to provide the support needed, add design element and function. See the links below for the various products used. As an affiliate associate for Amazon and other retailers I do earn a small commission if my link is used. Instructions
Materials Needed: Before we get started, gather the following materials:
Old dresser
Sandpaper
Primer
Paint or stain of your choice
Polyurethane or sealant
Screwdriver
Drill
Screws
Floating shelf brackets
Level
Decorative hardware (optional)
Step 1: Preparation Begin by removing any drawers, knobs, or hardware from the dresser. Use sandpaper to smooth out any rough surfaces and create a clean, even base for painting or staining. Once sanded, wipe down the dresser to remove any dust or debris. Fill the original hardware holes if replacing and let dry. Lightly sand and wipe clean again.
Step 2: Prime and Paint Apply a coat of primer to the dresser to ensure better adhesion and durability of the paint or stain. Allow the primer to dry completely before applying your chosen paint or stain color. Be sure to apply multiple thin coats for a smooth, professional finish. Let the dresser dry thoroughly between coats.
Step 3: Add a Countertop To create a countertop for your bar cabinet, measure the top of the dresser and cut a piece of plywood or butcher block to fit. Sand the edges and surface of the countertop until smooth, then secure it to the dresser using screws from underneath. Wood glue or Construction adhesive the wood strips to the toe kick after cutting them to right size.
Step 4: Install Floating Shelves Floating shelves are a stylish and space-saving addition to any bar cabinet. Using a level, mark the desired placement of the shelves on the wall. Install floating shelf brackets according to the manufacturer's instructions, then slide the shelves onto the brackets and secure them in place.
Step 5: Finishing Touches Once everything is in place, add any decorative hardware or accessories to personalize your bar cabinet. Consider adding wine glass racks, bottle holders, or a wine fridge for added functionality and flair.
